According to www.americashealthrankings.org, Idaho was ranked 17th in overall health in 2012, a slight decrease from 15th in 2010. The life expectancy is 79.21, which is slightly higher than the national average of 78.7 years.

When it comes to healthcare spending, Idaho is ranked 5th and is among the highest in per capita public health funding, with the current budget estimated at $1.9 billion. Of the total budget, over $474 million is slated for Medicaid. Even with high public health funding, the percentage of people who were uninsured in 2012 increased more than 2% in the past decade, with 18% of the population currently without health insurance and a rank of 37th. Idaho is the poorest-ranked state in the country in availability of primary care physicians with an average of a meager 77.5 PCPs per 100 thousand residents.
