Health Information for Medical Professionals in Michigan

According to www.americashealthrankings.org, Michigan was ranked 37th in overall health in 2012, decreasing from 33rd in 2011. The life expectancy is 77.89 years, which is slightly shorter than the average life expectance of 78.6 years.

When it comes to healthcare spending, Michigan is ranked 39th, spending approximately $55 per person. The state is ranked 14th in insurance, with 12.7% of the population living without insurance. This number has increased by 2.4% over the past decade. The availability of primary care physicians is ranked at 23rd, with approximately 117 PCPs per 100,000 residents, which is slightly less than the national average of 121.

Approximately 14.8% of adults in Michigan are living below poverty level. The percentage of children living in poverty is 22.7%, ranking Michigan 35th in the country in this category. Since 2000, the rate of adults living in poverty has increased 4.3%, while the rate of children has increased significantly by more than 10% in just the last 10 years.
